Our Adult Academics program includes English Plus, ESL, High School Completion courses, and more.

Winter 2025 – FREE* Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes Three levels offered - Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced ESL. Each student will be placed at his/her level based on an English pretest score. In all levels, students will learn and practice speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, life and job skills, American culture, and citizenship information. All classes are taught by experienced and certified teachers. Registration Schedule: January 6 at 7:00am for TROY RESIDENTS January 7-8 for ALL other residents Registration is ONLINE ONLY at troy.ce.eleyo.com! Class Schedule: Jan 15 – May 21: Monday/Wednesday in-seat classes Jan 16 – May 22: Tuesday/Thursday in-seat classes No class: Jan 20, Feb 17-21, March 24-31 Please read class day/times carefully and select which one you can attend. Class change requests are not guaranteed. Students can only miss 6 classes per session. Monday/Wednesday morning, 9:15am – 12:30pm Monday/Wednesday evening, 6:00pm – 9:15pm Tuesday/Thursday morning, 9:15am – 12:30pm In-seat classes meet at the Troy Learning Center, 1522 E. Big Beaver Road, Troy, MI 48083 Testing Schedule: NEW STUDENTS must complete an in-person English test for class placement. RETURNING STUDENTS that completed a posttest in the Fall 2024 session do not need to take another English test for class placement. An ONLINE registration and $30 payment are required PRIOR to testing for new students. Please attend a testing session below – you do not need an appointment. Arrive on time or you risk losing your spot. We do not offer late testing. Bring your photo ID and social security number (if you have one). Allow two hours for testing. Childcare is not available. English Plus focuses on reading, speaking, listening and writing. There is an emphasis on listening and reading skills and strategies. Students will practice pronunciation with accuracy in spoken English in a variety of academic contexts. Students will practice listening to and taking notes on academic lectures in a variety of content areas in preparation for a college and career path.

Students can earn a diploma, prepare for GED/HISET/High School Equivalency testing, and develop academic skills for employment or post-secondary admission. This program features online learning programs individualized lessons, self-paced study, and flexible learning schedules with certified teacher support. Classes are completed through online learning programs and an optional classroom/computer lab which is available Monday through Thursday 9:30 am – 12:30 pm for daytime students OR Monday through Thursday  6:00 pm - 9:15 pm for evening students. Requirements: Students must be 18 years or older and must qualify through placement testing.  A $30 non-refundable registration fee is required, otherwise, classes are FREE for eligible students. Students without a high school diploma/equivalency qualify if math and reading scores are above 5th grade level. Students who have a high school diploma/equivalency qualify if math and/or reading scores are below 12th grade and above 5th grade. Program diploma requirements include a minimum of 2 credits (4 classes) must be earned through Troy Adult Continuing Education unless previous credits have been earned from a Troy School District high school; in which case, a minimum of 1 credit (2 classes) must be earned through Troy Adult Continuing Education. All students must also take the Troy Adult Continuing Education program posttest to earn a diploma.   In Person Registration: In person registration will be on November 6 at 10am and 6pm. Come to Room 20 at the Troy Learning Center for an open registration session. Registration paperwork and math/reading placement testing is about a 3-hour process. Please bring a picture ID and Social Security Number. The building address is 1522 East Big Beaver Rd in Troy, 48083. Park on the West side of the building and enter through the middle doors facing the parking lot to get to Room 20. Email mjgale@troy.k12.mi.us with additional questions. Online Registration: Registration is closed for summer and will open online on September 9. You may register either online at troy.ce.eleyo.com or with a scheduled registration appointment in the building if you cannot register online. Registration will be on-going after September 9, and students can begin our program anytime after September 9. Snapology engages children ages 1-14 using LEGO® bricks, K’Nex and technology. While the kids are having fun with familiar toys, laptops and iPads, we sneak in the learning. Shh, don't tell them it's educational!

Troy Continuing Education, in partnership with Oakland County MIWorks! Troy, offers scholarships for career certifications. The scholarship covers the tuition cost to study. The scholarship is an opportunity to study English, basic reading and/or math skills and complete a career certification at the same time!

The Troy School District is pleased to offer a Tutoring Program for elementary, middle, and high school students. To provide the highest quality tutoring experience, all tutors are a part of the excellent Troy School District educational community. TSD TUTORS support classroom learning. Please review the TSD Tutors Parent Guidelines with your student. TutorPunch card: ONE-TO-ONE TUTORING Sessions are purchased as Punch Cards – however, actual Punch Cards are not being used at this time. Your Tutor and you will track your session usage. Registration Process: 1. Select Punch Card Tutoring from the options below. 2. Select 6 or 12 session Punch Card. Please fill out as much of the information as possible, so we can best find you an appropriate Tutor. 3. Include the name of your current Tutor. If you do not have one, leave blank, and a tutor will be assigned to you. The tutor will contact you and together you will work out your tutoring schedule. 4. Punch Card sessions can be used for more than one child. If 2 children will be using one card, please add the 2nd child's name, grade, subject to the NOTES section of the registration. Again, include as much information as possible! 5. You will be contacted by the TSD Tutor Coordinator for any additional information. You will then be connected to a Tutor.
